Meet Josue 🇨🇩
Democratic Republic of the Congo
CPSAF Scholar-Athlete: U.S. Arrival at Age 15
Introducing Josue, a 15-year-old emerging star from the resilient city of Goma in the DRC, surrounded by the love and support of his twelve siblings. Goma, the bustling capital of North Kivu Province, bears the scars of its recent tumultuous history, from volcanic eruptions to the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide and subsequent Congo Wars. These events have shaped the region's landscape and its people's spirit of endurance and resilience. In late 2012, Goma witnessed the M23 rebellion but has since reclaimed stability under government forces.
Josue's preferred dish, Fufu, is a beloved staple in many African countries, known for its doughy texture and role as a versatile accompaniment to various soups and stews, mirroring the rich culinary traditions of his homeland.
With aspirations to join the ranks of esteemed basketball programs at Brigham Young University, the University of Utah, or the University of Kansas, Josue is not just a dreamer but a dedicated athlete poised for greatness. Currently in the 9th grade, he has a passion for language and history, subjects that intrigue his analytical mind and complement his athletic discipline.
Josue's journey from Goma to the basketball courts is a testament to his resilience, intelligence, and the unyielding support of his family. As he continues to excel in academics and athletics, Josue stands as a beacon of hope and a symbol of the potential within every young athlete.
